PGA Tour star Patrick Cantlay withdraws from John Deere Classic

Patrick Cantlay has decided to withdraw from this week’s John Deere Classic on the PGA Tour.

No official reason has yet been given for Cantlay’s WD from TPC Deere Run in Illinois.

Cantlay, 32, was installed by the bookmakers as a clear 9/1 tournament favourite on Monday morning.

He was also due to speak with the media on Wednesday afternoon following the Pro-Am.

But the World No.8 officially withdrew his name from the list on Monday afternoon.

Cantlay has never played in the John Deere Classic.

He also WD on the Monday of this tournament back in 2017.

Cantlay has been replaced in this week’s field by Scotland’s Russell Knox.

It now means Jordan Spieth, Sepp Straka and Sungjae Im will start the week as joint tournament-favourites at 16/1.

Cantlay has incredibly not won on the PGA Tour since August 2022.

He has only had four top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour so far in 2024.

But two of them have come in his last two starts with credible ties for third at the US Open and fifth at the Travelers Championship.

Cantlay is next expected to tee it up in the Genesis Scottish Open next week before turning his attention to The Open the following week.
