Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are “about to collide” over the £110 million attacker deal

According to reports, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are set to compete for Florian Wirtz, an attacker for Bayer Leverkusen, in the summer of 2025.

The 21-year-old had a stellar 2023–24 season for Leverkusen, making 49 appearances across all competitions and tallying 18 goals and 20 assists.

Meanwhile, Wirtz has been a key member of Germany’s squad at Euro 2024. On June 14, in the competition’s opening game against Scotland, he scored a goal.

It is highly doubtful that the attacker, who is valued at £110 million by transfermarkt, would be moving during this summer’s transfer window as he is under contract with Xabi Alonso’s squad until June 2027, despite some rumours to the contrary.

But a transfer is anticipated for the following year, and Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are reportedly set to compete for his signing, according to Mundo Deportivo.

On June 14, 2024, Florian Wirtz of Germany celebrates his team’s first goal.

Real Madrid and Bayern are “ready to duel for Wirtz.”

Although the rumour suggests that Barcelona is also interested, it is unclear if the Catalan team has the resources to challenge for his signature.

In 152 appearances for Leverkusen in all competitions, Wirtz has scored 41 goals and tallied 50 assists, with 25 goals and 34 assists in 109 Bundesliga games.

Alonso was the ideal manager for the German to play under at this early point in his career, according to Wirtz’s father and agent earlier this year.

“Florian’s contract with Leverkusen runs until 2027,” Hans-Joachim Wirtz said in an interview with Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger. That’s about how long Leverkusen will have him.

“It is unknown when anything will happen. It would be best to wait another two years before making any decisions. Xabi Alonso is a great asset to Florian, bringing a wealth of qualities with him. He gets along well with every member of the team. This coach is ideal for this particular moment.”

On June 14, 2024, Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala of Germany celebrate the team’s first goal.

What attributes would Wirtz provide Real Madrid and Bayern?

It should come as no surprise that some of the greatest clubs in the world of football are interested in Wirtz since attacking midfielders who can assist goals as well as score them are rare.

With 32 Bundesliga appearances, 11 goals, and 12 assists, the attacker had a stellar season last year. In 11 Europa League games, he scored four goals and provided four assists.

In six appearances during the German Cup, he notched three goals and four assists. His exceptional skill set—which includes game intelligence, goals, and assists—will make him one of the most sought-after players in the world of football should he decide to leave next summer.

As is frequently the case, Real Madrid is reportedly confident in their ability to persuade him to transfer to Bernabeu, with Bayern Munich appearing to be playing catch-up.

Since he is gearing up to compete in the Champions League the next season, a move this summer seems improbable. Instead, the German might start the 2024–25 campaign fresh off a victory in the European Championship.
