Patriots have reportedly made a decision about their starting QB

New England Patriots are ready to start a new era.

Bill Belichick is no longer out there calling the shots, and it’ll be the Jerod Mayo show now.

Likewise, with Mac Jones gone, Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye entered the offseason competing for the QB1 job.

Unsurprisingly, it seems like the Patriots will roll with the veteran, at least for the time being, according to a report by The Athletic.

Apparently, Brissett will handle all the first-team reps in training camp, but that doesn’t mean the No. 3 pick won’t have a chance to take the job from him.

That was always expected.

Maye enters the league with a sky-high upside and impressive physical traits, but his footwork and mechanics are still rather raw, and the expectation was that he would sit out for his entire rookie year while he learned from Brissett.

There were positive reviews from the Patriots’ OTAs, particularly in terms of his work ethic and how determined he was to learn and pick everybody’s brains, but he’s still not ready.

Hopefully, that’s going to change at some point in the season.

But even if that’s not the case, the Patriots are doing the right thing by playing the waiting game with their prized rookie.

They already found out what happens when you fail at developing your young quarterback and how easily they could be ‘broken.’

And with them not expected to be a contending team in 2024, there’s simply no rush to send Maye out there right now.
