Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. shares devastating news on social media

In his prime, Roy Jones Jr. was one of the most beloved boxers in American history, winning belts in four weight classes in the 1990s and 2000s.

So when Jones took to X, formerly Twitter, to share the heartbreaking news that his son, DeAndre, took his own life on Saturday, fans and boxing voices across the world took to support the 55-year-old legend.

“Unfortunately, my son DeAndre took his life on Saturday,” Jones posted. “I’m so thankful that God allowed me to come home Friday night to spend the last night of his life with me and the family. I know a lot of people are going through tough times right now, but nothing is worth taking your own life.”

“God gives it and God should be the one to take it away. Please respect our privacy while my family and I process this loss. Thank you for the love and support.”

Jones is a boxing Hall of Famer, and compiled a career record of 66-10, most recently boxing against former UFC star Anthony Pettis in April 2023.

DeAndre Jones’ age was not immediately available. He is one of three children Roy has with his wife, Natlyn.
