How He Got Here: Spann-Ford spent a long time at the University of Minnesota, where he started by winning Scout Team Player of the Year in 2018. He was signed as a rookie free agency after the 2024 NFL Draft. Spann-Ford received honourable mentions in the All-Big 10 in 2022 and 2023 as he improved his game. During his 60-game career at Minnesota, he caught 95 receptions for seven touchdowns. At the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, where the Cowboys have recently had success selecting talented players from the All-Star Game, Spann-Ford was a standout.

What’s Next: It appears that the Cowboys have identified an undrafted tight end potential to nurture over the past two years. Peyton Hendershot did so in 2022, and John Stephens did so the previous year—though he had an injury prior to the start of the season. Now, Spann-Ford might be the player the Cowboys choose since he has the size and physical attributes to be ready right away. The issue is that he’ll probably have to defeat Stephens and Hendershot, who are both still eligible to compete.

Did you know that from 2019 to 2023, Spann-Ford won five years in a row as an All-Big 10 Academic honoree?

Quotable: “We have Brevyn, who is an extremely talented player. He brings experience with him. He is a terrific measurer, both in length and size. He is quite athletic. He is intelligent. As a coach, it excites you that we were able to get him, particularly in the free agency market where we did so. Another young man in your room for development is this one. He’ll blend right in with the space.” Lunda Wells, the tight ends coach, added Spann-Ford.
