AimPoint is seemingly like marmite. You either love it or hate it. At least that is the reaction among a large number of golf fans during the US Open.

While AimPoint divides opinion at the best of times, this fairly new putting craze has been all the rage on X / Twitter the past 24 hours.

That’s after an incredible video of PGA Tour stars Max Homa and Viktor Hovland went viral at Pinehurst No.2.

AimPoint is a simple alignment method that involves using both your feet and your hands to figure out the exact line a putt should be hit on in order for it to find the target.

The more slope that is felt, the more fingers are held up.

The outermost finger then gives the player the ‘aim point’ in which to hit their putt.

How does AimPoint work?

As for the viral clip in question, we join Homa and Hovland going about their business, simultaneously reading their putts with LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau watching on.

Homa is seen turning his back to the hole, feeling every inch of the putt as he squats lower to the ground.

Hovland is then seen walking towards the hole, shuffling his feet as he moves closer and closer towards the hole.

The critics of AimPoint believe a) what’s the point when you can just read putts normally, and b) the time taken to go about your business doing AimPoint.

The fans of AimPoint would disagree with you, however, saying the proof is in the pudding if you actually try to use it.

Hovland and Homa both missed the cut on 6-over par. So make of that what you will.

Golf fan Gabby Herzig, who writes for The Athletic, tweeted in disbelief at the video.

She tweeted:

“I’ve been anti-AimPoint since my junior golf days when girls would stomp all over my line to read their 4-foot putts.

“We’ve reached a new level of disgrace. Literally what is happening here.”
