After only a year of buying Matheus Nunes from Wolves, Manchester City is prepared to approve his release.

TBR Football reports that since joining Manchester City from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer, Matheus Nunes has not performed up to par. The Portuguese midfielder is prepared to leave Manchester City as they attempt to reassemble their midfield since he has failed to make an impression on Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup.

Nunes moved to England and joined Wolves after an outstanding ascent at Sporting CP. He quickly got used to life in the English premier league. There was a lot of curiosity because of his versatility and steady performances. The competition for his services was won by the champions Manchester City.

Will Nunes’s tenure at City expire in a year?

Manchester City paid a hefty sum to acquire Nunes. There were high hopes for the Portuguese international coming in, but he hasn’t lived up to them. The 25-year-old has only contributed five assists in 31 games while playing in 31 of them and clocking just over 1,500 minutes on the field.

Guardiola has not been persuaded by Nunes that he is the best candidate for the position. His future with the team is in doubt as City prepares for a crucial transfer window in which they intend to restructure their midfield.

Right now, their primary worry is what will happen to their talented pair, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne. Silva has spent the last few windows being linked to a move away. He is anticipated to stay at the club, though. The Belgian international, who has the potential to make a large-scale financial move outside of Europe, cannot be regarded to be in the same boat.

Manchester City has already begun exploring options to bolster their midfield, even though they will do all in their power to hang onto their star players. In order to make sure they keep their dominance, they are hoping to sign several elite players. They are also prepared to profit off a handful of their players in order to make it happen.

It’s highly likely that Kalvin Phillips will leave, and they want to take advantage of Matheus Nunes. Manchester City will want to recover their investment and utilise it to recruit their midfield targets as the 25-year-old hasn’t performed up to par.
