Mike Tyson will still need to pass extensive medical screening for his rescheduled fight with Jake Paul.

‘Iron Mike’ was supposed to face social media star Paul next month but their fight has been pushed back to November 15 after the boxing legend suffered a health scare whilst onboard a flight. The controversial professionally sanctioned bout will still take place with the same fight rules at the original location, AT&T Stadium in Texas.

Tela Mange, Head of Communications for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, told World Boxing News that Tyson is still under close observation after his stomach ulcer flare-up. “At this point, the fight remains an eight-round contest over two-minute rounds with 14-ounce gloves,” he said.

Mange previously noted that Tyson must submit favourable results from an electroencephalogram (EEG) and an electrocardiogram (EKG) to fight. “As I think I’ve said before, the Department will stay informed about the health of the combatants and will obtain more information if needed to protect their health and safety,” he said.

“In addition to pre-licensing medical screening, TDLR’s ringside physicians also conduct pre-fight physicals before the event. TDLR rules state that licensure does not automatically authorise an individual to participate in an event if their health or safety could be compromised.”

The Texas Commission has promised to call the fight off permanently if another issue with Tyson’s stomach arises. The former undisputed heavyweight champion will be 58 when he steps in the ring whilst Paul will be just 27, making it the largest age gap between two boxers in professional history.

“Although we had to postpone the fight, I will resume training shortly,” Tyson recently said. “I am thankful to the medical staff that treated me and to MVP, Netflix, and AT&T Stadium for working diligently to find the best rescheduled date for all parties. While we have a new date, the result will be the same no matter when we fight. Jake Paul is getting knocked out.”
