ARLINGTON, TEXAS - OCTOBER 02: Sam Williams #54 of the Dallas Cowboys and Trevon Diggs #7 of the Dallas Cowboys celebrate with DaRon Bland #26 of the Dallas Cowboys after Bland's interception during the fourth quarter against the Washington Commanders at AT&T Stadium on October 02, 2022 in Arlington, Texas. The Dallas Cowboys defense, despite not having many new reinforcements, is experienced and has top NFL players.

The fact that Stephon Gilmore became a free agent and the franchise didn’t try to renew him was a blow to the fans, given that he has a great reputation among the league’s cornerbacks and still has gas to burn on the field.

We’re entering the second week of the OTAs and the CB still doesn’t have a team to defend in 2024.

If the organisation were to extend Gilmore, the team could put him at outside cornerback alongside Trevon Diggs, and DaRon Bland would play nickel corner. However, Diggs tore his ACL and this scheme had to be postponed.

For 2024, the duo is expected to be between Bland and Diggs, with possibly Jourdan Lewis as an option for the nickel spot.

Ex-cornerback and Super Bowl winner talks about the situation of CBs in the NFL

Chris Harris, former Denver Broncos cornerback, was on the Up & Adams show last Monday and was asked by the host who he considers to be the best pair of CBs in the league.

“Definitetly we need some more duos out there, there’s a lot of teams with just one solid guy… There’s not too many duos out there right now.” said.

Kay Adams then asked if he played against the Cowboys if he would be able to contain Cee Dee Lamb.

Harris didn’t hesitate and confirmed that if he was in his prime he would do great against the wide receiver: “Guys like him never really gave me trouble… It was mainly the Tyreek Hills, those guys that are blazers – so I don’t think I would have an issue.”

Chris Harris puts Dallas as the team with the best cornerback duo

The former player had to choose a pair of cornerbacks from the 32 NFL teams as the best.

Despite believing that the league needs a greater number of equally powerful duos, Harris chose the defenders of America’s Team.

“I’m gonna have to go with the Cowboys. I like (DaRon) Bland and I like (Trevon) Diggs, hopefully he comes back healthy. I wish they would pick up, Steph (Gilmore) back, I think that would complete the secondary, you know, having another great veteran – he was good for them.”

Dallas has even started new negotiations to keep its stars in the squad… CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, Dak Prescott.

It doesn’t look like Gilmore will be prioritised and guaranteed a place in the team this season.
