Carlos Alcaraz recently suggested that he would consider playing mixed doubles with his future girlfriend in light of Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas almost teaming up at Roland Garros.
Obviously, the big news from tennis’ most popular couple is that they did not join forces for their mixed doubles match on Monday as originally planned and withdrew from the tournament.
Predictably, this was bound to happen, considering that Tsitsipas was set to face Alcaraz in a massive quarterfinal match in singles on Tuesday. So, taking to the court for mixed doubles with girlfriend Badosa 24 hours earlier was probably among the least of his priorities.
Tsitsipas was also slated to play doubles with his younger brother Petros on the same day and committed to play. They duly won their second-round match by upsetting defending champions Austin Krajicek and Ivan Dodig.
Playing an additional match on Monday would jeopardize the Greek’s energy tank for the singles competition. He is bidding to win the tournament after losing to Novak Djokovic three years ago.
Tsitsipas Fires Clear Warning To Alcaraz Ahead Of Their Clash At Roland Garros
Alcaraz, who defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets to reach a second straight quarterfinal at Roland Garros, recently commented on the relationship between Tsitsipas and Badosa, famously known as “Tsitsdidoa,” while addressing his own private life.
“I personally have to put myself in the situation of having a girlfriend. It would be complicated. Mixing personal and professional life, I would look at the professional part. Stefanos is physically fine. If he sees that it is good for him, go ahead.”
Alcaraz is currently not in a relationship, but if he dated a fellow tennis player, he would explore the possibility of playing mixed doubles if his girlfriend requested him to do so.
“If I had a girlfriend and If she asked me to play the mixed one, I would have to evaluate many things to be able to decide. If everything is good, why not.”
