As Sir Jim Ratcliffe gets ready to make his first signing, Manchester United is considering a low-cost deal for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

During the summer transfer season, the 71-year-old is anticipated to undergo a roster revamp at United, with certain players set to depart and others slated to join Old Trafford. More departures are expected, since Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane have already announced their departures.

This will make room in the team for new players, and The Sun reports that United is pursuing Branthwaite ahead of the Friday, June 14 window opening. Ratcliffe, who earlier in the season purchased a 25 percent stake in United, is keen to start his period with a bang.

This summer, United wants to add at least one new centre back. After his contract expires, Jonny Evans is probably going to leave, West Ham wants Harry Maguire, and Lisandro Martinez has just recently fully recovered from a serious injury. Victor Lindelof’s current contract expires in just one year as well.

Three teams are lining up to sign Sir Jim Ratcliffe when he wants to leave Manchester United.

The Manchester United player informed Erik ten Hag that he was not interested in competing in the FA Cup final.

After making an impact for Everton, Branthwaite has emerged as one of the top young defenders in the Premier League and is seen to be able to assist United reach new heights. This season, the former centre defender for Carlisle and PSV has made 35 appearances and scored three goals for the Toffees.

Ratcliffe wants to get United back to compete among the best in European football as soon as possible, but he hasn’t decided firmly on whether Ten Hag will be in charge the next season. And for just £40 million, he is prepared to sign Branthwaite, who received his first senior England call-up in March.

Everton, who continue to be a complete mess off the pitch, are in serious need of money to survive. Although the Premier League has not yet approved the agreement, 777 Partners has had difficulty finalising the purchase of existing owner Farhad Moshiri’s 94 percent interest, which they agreed to purchase in September. In March, the Toffees reported an £89.1 million post-tax loss.

This implies that Everton may sell Branthwaite for just half of his estimated £80 million. As the Toffees attempt to balance the books, Jordan Pickford, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Amadou Onana, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Dwight McNeil are a few more players who might be let go for discounted costs.

Branthwaite’s transfer is being considered as United gets ready for the upcoming Europa League campaign. The Red Devils, who placed eighth in the Premier League, won the FA Cup on Saturday over Manchester City, securing their spot in Europe’s second division.

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo put United ahead early in the second half, and even though Jeremy Doku equalised late in the game, the Red Devils managed to hold on for a historic triumph. Ten Hag commented, “It’s always better to end on a high and then you have the full summer to enjoy,” following his FA Cup victory.

“We are making progress, and our group includes players with great potential. One trophy on my bucket list was the FA Cup. It’s a big prize, and I’m thrilled that the players, squad, and staff helped us win it. It was truly a collective effort.”
