Marcus Rashford was caught in a heated exchange with a fan at Old Trafford, needing his Man Utd teammates to step in and cool things down.

The England ace seemed annoyed by something ahead of the Newcastle clash on tonight, with Christian Eriksen among those ushering him away after some unsavoury comments from the stands.

Footage that’s now gone viral shows Rashford appearing to have been given a hard time by some supporters. Although it appears what was said to him was not caught on camaera.

Since the footage was posted on X (formerly Twitter), Rashford has been backed by users with some saying it was “unacceptable” from fans.

Despite bagging an impressive 30 goals last season and securing a new deal, Rashford has been having a tough go this year. With only seven Premier League goals to his name, whispers of a summer exit have started doing the rounds.

Rashford hasn’t been seen on the pitch for the Red Devils since he suffered an injury during their FA Cup semi-final victory over Coventry City, though he did make the bench against the Magpies.

Erik ten Hag has thrown his weight behind Rashford despite the dip in form, calling for support from the fans post-Wembley: “I have a lot of sympathy for Rashy, of course.”, reports the Mirror.

“Last year, he had a brilliant season; I think the best in his career. I think it was 30 goals. We can see what he is capable of.

“This season, he hasn’t given the performances and people are very critical and I think we have to back him. Everyone should back him and should push him to get back to the levels he had last year.

“I think he needs the support,” added Ten Hag. “We all know what he is capable of, so we have to support him, but we also have to push him because he can do better than he is doing this year. We have seen last year, where he was really brilliant.”
