‘Impossible’ – Club can’t pay Aston Villa player’s £540k monthly salary, no chance they can get close

We highlighted Brazilian claims earlier this month indicating Cruzeiro is interested in signing Aston Villa’s Philippe Coutinho.

The midfielder may have a specific incentive to return to his native country because he wants to make a comeback with the national team.

The club recently changed ownership, and it was reported that they are looking significant reinforcements and could go after the player.

As journalist Jorge Nicola now provides an update on the matter, it appears that he has been informed that this transfer is not taking place. It is “impossible” for Cruzeiro to sign Coutinho from Aston Villa, according to a source from the club’s board that the reporter spoke with. His pay is the only explanation.

The player reportedly earns £540,000 a month from the English team; in Brazil, he is not likely to be paid anything like that.

Coutinho will return to Aston Villa this summer after serving a loan at Al-Duhail SC. He still has a contract with Unai Emery’s team that expires in2026, so the team and his representative need to find him a new arrangement quickly.
