Scottie Scheffler shanks bunker shot in R1 at RBC Heritage

At the RBC Heritage on the PGA Tour, Scottie Scheffler shot an opening 2-under 69 after hitting a terrifying shank in the greenside bunker on the third hole.

This week, Scheffler, 27, will take the field at Harbour Town Golf Links fresh off his third consecutive Masters victory.

This season, the undisputed FedEx Cup leader and World No. 1 has won three matches already.

Scheffler, though, showed that he is still only human after all when he hit one of his worst bunker shots ever on 3.

Scheffler started out well, making an up-and-down birdie at the par-5 second hole, but things took a turn for the worst on the following hole.

After finding the greenside bunker short right, the nine-time PGA Tour winner shanked his bunker shot.

Scheffler made a terrible double-bogey six after chipping up to five feet but missing the bogey putt.

However, Scheffler’s capacity for comebacks is one of his greatest assets, and he demonstrated this in the opening round of the RBC Heritage.

After missing several good birdie opportunities around the turn, Scheffler birdied the difficult par-3 7th to bounce back to level par. He then made back-to-back birdies from five feet on 16 and 15 feet on 17 to finish at 2-under 69.

Scheffler will need to loosen up, though, if he is to win a fourth PGA Tour championship in his previous five starts.

That’s because it’s already eight shots under par thanks to his countryman JT Poston.

Since his wife Meredith is expecting their first child, Scheffler is still on baby watch.

The end of the month is stated as the due date.

The $20 million prize pool for this week’s PGA Tour event makes it a marquee event.
