‘The European Tour has been absolutely destroyed by it’ – Billy Foster gives hard-hitting view on ‘Rubbish’ World rankings

After caddying for many of the top players on the European Tour throughout the years, Billy Foster is still a devoted fixture on the circuit.

The seasoned bagman, who caddied for Lee Westwood and Seve Ballesteros in the past, acknowledges that he is disappointed with the Tour’s current state of decline because it no longer fields as many well-known players.

He believes the group—which has since changed its name to the DP World Tour—may come to regret turning down a possible partnership with LIV Golf and Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, he has attacked the Official Golf World Ranking, claiming that it lacks credibility and discriminates against players on the European Tour, such as Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Joaquin Niemann, and Bryson DeChambeau, who are currently languishing lower in the rankings due to their breakaway series’ failure to earn any points.

Speaking through CasinoAlpha.com, Yorkshireman Foster stated: “I don’t know how the system works, but it’s all geared against America, which is ridiculous.

“It has completely wrecked the European Tour. Since all of the points on the European Tour go to America, it is quite tough to accumulate ranking points there.

“Out of Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Joaquin Niemann and Bryson DeChambeau, they’d all be top 15 in the world so absolutely the ranking system is a load of rubbish.”

Foster is one of the most well-known and reputable caddies in the world, having carried the bags of players like Sergio Garcia, Westwood, Ballesteros, Thomas Bjorn, Darren Clarke, and most recently, Matt Fitzpatrick, with whom he shared the 2022 US Open championship.

Foster continued, “I’m not sure if that ship has flown, but others believe that the European Tour and LIV should work together to create a world tour that would compete with the PGA Tour.

“The European Tour may have made a costly mistake in the end. I’ve been around it for forty years, and twenty of those years were just fantastic. It’s all quite regrettable.”

Billy Foster and Tiger Woods discussing their next move

Billy Foster even served as Tiger Woods’ caddie.

Foster anticipates Rory McIlroy, who is aiming for the Grand Slam, to compete in the Masters this week while he returns to Fitzpatrick’s bag for his day job.

After LIV’s long-running spat with the PGA Tour, he thinks McIlroy is better off focusing on golf than politics.

Foster declared: “I don’t doubt his desire, and he’ll be challenging at The Masters. He’s still an incredible golfer.” Regretfully, he’s found himself in a precarious scenario where he’s lost focus on golf and is instead obsessing over politics. Maybe he should just go back to playing golf and let other people handle the politics.”
