Ndombele involved in chaos, ‘Agent Reguilon’ helps Spurs and young star shines

Tottenham’s vast group of loan players have just over a month left in the season before they start thinking about what the upcoming campaign holds for them.

This season, Spurs have loaned out players to Premier League and Football League teams in England as well as to foreign teams in Turkey, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, and Italy. Both Eric Dier and Ivan Perisic agreed to join Bayern Munich and Hajduk Split permanently this summer when their contracts at the north London club expire. They also went on loan to both teams, respectively.

The remaining twelve loanees for Tottenham have performed as follows during the last week:

Ndombele Tanguy (Galatasaray)

The Turkish Super Cup final on Sunday was the most tumultuous match of the weekend, and Tanguy Ndombele was part of it. The highlight match was supposed to pit Galatasaray against Fenerbahce, however the latter team entered their under-19 squad and left the field a minute into the match because they believed they were being treated unfairly.

Fenerbahce requested that the championship match, which had already been rescheduled from December, be postponed in order to give them more time to train for their Europa League quarterfinal matchup with Olympiakos on Thursday. But their cries went unheeded, and they were forced to send a youth squad to the championship game before abandoning the field after just one minute, during which Mauro Icardi had given Galatasaray the lead after fifty seconds.

Galatasaray was declared the winner, but the day was far from over as they proceeded to field their reserves against their starting squad, allowing the supporters who had paid for tickets to watch a game of football. Ndombele was seen competing in the exhibition match while donning his recognizable beanie cap, which he frequently wore during Spurs practise, even in the sweltering heat.

Djed Spence (Genoa)

During the last 12 minutes of Genoa’s 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona on Sunday, Djed Spence came off the bench.

Since coming to Italy, the 23-year-old right-back has played on both wings, but he started the match as a wing-back on his natural right side to help Genoa maintain their lead over the Serie A underdogs. Despite having just seven touches of the ball at that time, he made three clearances, had a 100% pass success rate, albeit with just one pass.

Spence has participated in nine Serie A games and accrued 455 minutes of playing time. This is more than he did in his seven outings at Leeds during the first half of the season and significantly more than he did in his few minutes with Spurs before to that.

Reguilon Sergio (Brentford)

Spurs owed a great deal to Sergio Reguilon, who played one of his best games of the year, enabling Brentford to overturn a 2-0 deficit and draw 3-3 against Aston Villa.

The Spaniard, who was back in the lineup and making his first start after his previous ban, picked up two assists at Villa Park that day. He was involved in the first goal’s setup for Brentford and then crossed the ball for Bryan Mbeumo to volley home their second. After three goals in nine minutes, Reguilon set up Yoane Wissa for a cool finish to give the visitors the lead.

Villa scored a late equalizer, but Spurs’ victory over Nottingham Forest the next day—after Agent Reguilon’s work was completed—allowed them to pass Villa and move up to fourth place.

Sevillan Alejo Veliz

Alejo Veliz took a break from practicing with the Sevilla players for a couple of weeks because they didn’t have a game on the weekend.

Veliz and Sevilla had the weekend off since the Copa del Rey final between Athletic Club and Mallorca, which the former won on penalties, forced a postponement of their originally planned La Liga matches.

The youthful Argentine has had difficulty finding playing time in Spain and is aiming to play for the first time in over a month when Sevilla returns to action at Las Palmas on Sunday.

Leeds United’s Joe Rodon

Joe Rodon and Leeds suffered their first Championship loss of 2024 at the weekend as Coventry broke Daniel Farke’s team’s 15-game league winning streak.

The 26-year-old Wales international was unable to do much except watch as Haji Wright found acres of room to score Coventry’s second goal, which ended up being the game-winning goal.

Leeds Live nevertheless gave the center defender a seven out of ten in their player ratings, writing, “Haji Wright’s second goal was strange and embarrassing, and he has to accept some of the blame for it. Apart from that, he was outstanding once more and cleared off a lot of danger that United faced, particularly in the first half.”

When Leeds plays Sunderland in the Championship on Tuesday night, Rodon most likely to start again. With 42 appearances and 3,664 minutes played, the defender has been a virtual constant for Leeds this season, a campaign that has truly restored his image.

The Excelsior Rotterdam’s Troy Parrott

Troy Parrott hasn’t been able to play for Excelsior Rotterdam in the Eredivisie for the last five games due to his quad injury.

As previously reported by football.london, teams from the Championship, Serie A, and Bundesliga are keeping an eye on the 22-year-old’s circumstances at the north London club. The Republic of Ireland international’s contract with Spurs runs through 2025, however there may be a clause allowing the team to extend it by an additional year.

Tanganga Japhet (Millwall)

Japhet Tanganga’s regular playing time was maintained on Saturday as Millwall lost 1-0 away to fellow struggling team Huddersfield.

The 25-year-old made one crucial pass, prevailed in two aerial duels, finished five clearances, grabbed two interceptions, and blocked two shots, but he was unable to stop Millwall from losing.

Tanganga will face Harry Winks, a fellow Spurs academy graduate, on Tuesday night when Millwall hosts Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

Tanganga had no game time at all in the first half of the season at Augsburg, but he has played 13 games for Millwall, totaling 1,102 minutes, and has started almost every game.

Plymouth Argyle’s Alfie Devine and Ashley Phillips

Ashley Phillips played the entire ninety-minute match as Plymouth Argyle, now led by first team coach Kevin Nancekivell and director of football Neil Dewsnip after Ian Foster’s departure, secured a much-needed 1-0 victory over fellow relegation-threatened Rotherham in the Championship on Friday.

In the 1-0 loss against Bristol City at home, Alfie Devine was sent his first red card of his senior career; this result ultimately lost Foster his job. Alfie Devine was suspended from the game.

For the victory over Rotherham, Phillips was given a seven by Plymouth Live’s player ratings, which stated: “Phillips and his defensive colleagues were not over-stretched in dealing with any danger, such was Rotherham’s lacklustre attacking play.”

Devine and Phillips will both be hoping to play in Tuesday night’s crucial basement derby between Plymouth and QPR.

Craig Matthew (Doncaster Rovers)

Doncaster continued their good momentum from earlier in the week with a 3-0 victory over Morecambe, thanks in large part to 90 minutes played by Matthew Craig in the center of midfield.

The 20-year-old Scotland Under-21 international has made a significant impact while on loan, solidifying his position at the center of Grant McCann’s team’s midfield, which has led to a run of six straight wins.

The youthful defensive midfielder has featured in 13 League Two games, recording 1,047 minutes and one goal and one assist.

Keeley Josh (Barnet)

In a 2-2 draw with Maidenhead United in the National League, Barnet secured a crucial point with a late penalty, thanks to the goal of 20-year-old goalkeeper Josh Keeley.

In a crucial game on Tuesday night, the Republic of Ireland U21 goalkeeper will be hoping to get the start against third-place Bromley, who are five points behind second-place Barnet with a game remaining.

Barton Rovers player Sam Archer

Sam Archer, the goalkeeper for Tottenham’s Under-18 team, has now recorded four straight clean sheets since joining Barton Rovers in Southern League Central Division One on a short-term work experience loan.

The 17-year-old has had a great run with the non-league team, and he put

up another strong showing over the weekend in their 0-0 home tie with Waltham Abbey.
