Due to illness, Cameron Smith was forced to withdraw from the LIV Golf Miami tournament before the second round. It has been claimed that the Australian player contracted food poisoning while in Florida earlier in the week.

Ben Campbell, a reserve who is playing in his first League of Legends match, will take the captaincy of Riper GC. The New Zealander and Smith had previous experience together; in 2023, the former won the Hong Kong Open by defeating the latter by a single stroke.

Despite the unfortunate timing of Smith’s illness—The Masters is next week—the 30-year-old is predicted to fully recover in time for Augusta National.

In an attempt to move back up the World Rankings and support his quest to qualify for the summer Olympics in Paris, Smith will be aiming for a strong showing at the first men’s Major event of the year.

The Australian, who trails fellow citizens Jason Day, Min Woo Lee, Adam Scott, and Cameron Davis in the rankings, acknowledged earlier this week that he is “desperate” to compete in the event. However, he also acknowledged that there is increased pressure to succeed because there are fewer possibilities.

“I have to play well to get there,” he stated. I’m aware that I have to do well because I’ll probably only have three or four chances to do so before they choose. I suppose there is more strain.”
