A fellow golfer has pleaded with Rory McIlroy to make a “immediate change” following yet another subpar showing on the PGA Tour.

Before the 2024 Masters, Rory McIlroy pleaded for a significant adjustment.

If Rory McIlroy hopes to win the Masters the following month, he needs to adjust right away.

English golfer Jamie Spence, who recently spoke about the Northern Irishman on the Sky Sports Golf podcast, at least feels that way.

The 34-year-old McIlroy had another unsatisfactory week on the PGA Tour following a mixed showing at the Players Championship.

At TPC Sawgrass, the four-time major champion made an incredible number of birdies. The only issue was that he missed far too many shots.

McIlroy’s final-round performance, which summarized up his 2024 season thus far, was a T-19.

In Rory McIlroy’s opinion, Greg Norman has done “a disservice” to the governor of Saudi PIF.

Jordan Spieth finally talks on Rory McIlroy’s dropgate while confirming the LIV report.

Following his confrontation with a frog (!) at the Players, Rory McIlroy makes a costly error.

“He’s not with it at the moment,” Spence stated on the show. He is an erratic player, yet his erratic play…

“I just checked his last five finishes, and he tied for 19th place at his best finish. That’s not who Rory is.

“He placed 66th at Pebble Beach, 24th at the Genesis, and 21st at Cognizant after winning the [Dubai Desert Classic].”

“In the interview, he stated, “It’s not like I’m playing poorly and missing cuts.”

“But for me, there was no conviction in what he was saying, no strength in his voice.

“He knows he’s not on his game and he knows he’s got some gremlins going on in his golf swing at the moment.”

Before the 2024 Masters, Rory McIlroy pleaded for a significant adjustment.

This year, McIlroy’s iron play has drawn a lot of criticism. That has historically been one of his strongest game aspects.

McIlroy told reporters prior to the Players that he had a “amazing feeling” while standing over his woods.

“But when I try to recreate that feeling with the irons, it starts left and goes further left,” he stated.

“I adore the sensation I get when I shoot my right arm along the target line.

“And I can do that with my woods really well, but then when I try to do that with my irons, the club face closes over and goes left.”

Before it’s too late, Spence begged McIlroy to change.

“I’m not his coach, he’s been with the same team, they’ve been making the same mistakes,” he stated.

It’s insane to anticipate a different outcome from the same conduct, isn’t that right?

It’s imperative that both you and he make changes.

He’s a really talented player, yet despite his tendency to run streaks, he can consistently finish fifth, tenth, and higher. That’s something he can still do.

You just have to wait for Rory to get back on the surfboard and back on the wave because he’s always up and down.

“He’s practically unbeatable when he does it. Thus, I’m not concerned about Rory.”

He went on: “It doesn’t follow any pattern. No “From down the road, I can see Rory winning.”

“With him, it doesn’t operate that way. Suddenly, he’s not on it, and then he is. So it’s a switch with him for me.”

Just one PGA Tour event will McIlroy compete in before heading to Augusta National.

Before traveling to Georgia, he will take the field in the Valero Texas Open, which takes place from April 4–7.
