Premier League record reveals Tottenham Hotspur obtained an £8 million discount on a “wonderful” acquisition

Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest appears to have been signed by Tottenham Hotspur at a discount.

Nottingham Forest’s point deduction has finally been confirmed.

Following weeks of conjecture, Forest was hit with a four-point deduction for violating the profit and sustainability regulations of the Premier League.

In their fight to avoid relegation, Forest will file an appeal of the ruling and try to regain some ground.

Brennan Johnson, a forward for Tottenham Hotspur who left Forest on the day of the summer transfer deadline, is a crucial figure at the center of this entire story.

Premier League records indicate a discount for Brennan Johnson.

The Premier League believes that Forest should have sold Johnson sooner to comply with the profit and sustainability regulations, even though the move helped the company balance the books.

It has recently been discovered through case documentation that Forest and Atletico Madrid actually discussed a deal for Johnson.

Johnson was reportedly offered over €50 million (£42.5 million) by Atletico in June 2023, but the offer was essentially turned down.

After Forest responded with a demand for €65 million (£55.5 million), Atletico never got back to them.

Afterwards, Forest turned down three bids from Brentford totaling £32.5 million, £35 million, and £40 million even though they were aware that they had to sell Johnson before the window closed.

Ultimately, Forest and Tottenham agreed to sell Johnson for £47.5 million, according to Premier League records.

With Tottenham able to drive down the price and Forest under pressure to sell, it is about £8 million less than what Forest had asked from Atletico.

With three goals and two assists in his past seven appearances, Johnson is finally beginning to live up to his enormous transfer fee.

Johnson, who Wales manager Rob Page called “wonderful,” is still only 22 years old and has a bright future ahead of him at Tottenham.

Although some will continue to argue over Johnson’s worth of £47.5 million, Tottenham will consider the Atletico negotiations and conclude that they ultimately received a good bargain.
