Phil Hay believes the 24-year-old won’t be back for Leeds United this season

Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu have had incredible form. Since the start of the new year, Daniel Farke’s team has benefited greatly from the play of the Leeds United tandem in the middle of defense.

Together, Rodon and Ampadu have started 12 consecutive Championship games at center back. The Whites have won 11 games during that span, maintaining an incredible nine clean sheets while giving up only three goals.

Leeds is playing brilliantly, and they managed to overcome Millwall 2-0 on Sunday to take the top spot. Rodon’s dislike of playing defense alongside Ampadu aside, the Whites appear to be in superb form.

But some find it challenging because of such form. People who are marginalized or injured have been forced to wait for an opportunity. Before becoming hurt at the beginning of the year, Struijk was leading the team as captain.

He won’t be playing in 2024, having now missed 14 straight Championship games. Hay told TSB that even if Farke returns and is fit, does he get back in? Farke recently stated that he might miss the remainder of the season.

You get the impression that surgery is likely to occur. There are eight games left, and even if he were to return, I don’t see him starting or disrupting the current group of center backs. Too excellent.

Pascal Struijk won’t be able to start for Leeds United, according to Phil Hay.

He is not incorrect. One of our best players in the initial part of the season was Struijk. However, why alter when Rodon and Ampadu are performing so well and Ilia Gruev is doing a fantastic job of covering Ampadu in midfield?

Leeds is performing at a level that supporters have not seen since Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure, and with eight games remaining, promotion is a genuine possibility. Changing the lineup at this late stage would be too risky.
