Five dribbles, one goal… On Saturday, the 23-year-old Leeds loanee delivered one of his greatest performances of the season

Brenden Aaronson is one of the Leeds United players whose future is uncertain moving into the summer, with many fans unlikely to want to see the 23-year-old play for the club again.

Brenden Aaronson was among the first players to leave Elland Road following relegation. That exit occurred despite the attacking midfielder’s dismal season with the Whites, which included only a few notable displays.

You could sympathize with Aaronson’s decision. Union Berlin may offer Champions League football. And the American would have been doing everything he could to get into the USMNT squad for this year’s Copa America.

Unfortunately for Aaronson, his stint on loan has been unsuccessful. Union was knocked out of the Champions League group stages, and relegation appeared to be an option.

Aaronson was also left off the most recent USMNT roster. So far, all indications are that Leeds will struggle to find a buyer for the kid this summer.

However, Union’s 2-1 victory over Werder Bremen on Saturday provided further encouraging signals. Aaronson scored the game-winner.

Aaronson finished smartly, playing a wonderful one-two on the edge of the area before shooting beyond the goalkeeper.

What was promising was that he seemed to be lot more ready to stay on his feet when he was tested. Few people seemed more irritated by Aaronson’s easy fall last season than his own fans.

There were some great details in little places. Meanwhile, Whoscored reveals that he has won more challenges than any other Union player. And he completed five dribbles, more than any other player on the field.

A lot more to prove before Leeds fans change their views about the youngster.

Many fans will not notice a significant difference from a single strong performance. Finally, if the loaned players return this summer, they will have to work harder to win over fans.

Aaronson would have an even greater point to prove given his dismal performance in the first few weeks of the season.

However, flashes of his potential indicate that, if he does stay, there is a player in there someplace.
