“I don’t mean this disrespectfully,” Paul Merson said last night while making a new Tottenham claim live on Sky

This season, Tottenham Hotspur will have a significant influence on the Premier League winner.

Ange Postecoglou and his team’s offensive prowess was on display on Sunday as they defeated Aston Villa, a team in the top four, 4-0.

Before the season is out, the top three teams in the Premier League—Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City—must either host or go to Hotspur Way.

However, Paul Merson believes that because they will open the game, all three clubs will want to play the team vying for the Champions League, as he stated on Soccer Special on Sky Sports on December 3, 24 at 7:10 p.m.

“I don’t mean this disrespectfully,” the former Arsenal player continued, “but I also don’t see those title-chasing teams fearing Tottenham.”

Spurs have won all of the rematch matches against those teams, including the contentious matchup against Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola’s record against Tottenham and the fierce nature of the north London derby also make it unlikely that anything unexpected will occur.

“I don’t mean to offend Tottenham, but I think Daws (Michael Dawson) with the Tottenham one,” Merson remarked.

Tottenham would have a shot, therefore all three would want to play for them. Unlike Brentford, where players must be broken down into groups of ten and sit behind the ball, this is not necessary. It requires a lot of labor. No matter who they are playing, Tottenham will come and try.

That seems appropriate for all three of those teams. I get that you might think they could win one of those games, but I don’t think any of them will be afraid to play Tottenham—and I don’t intend to come across as rude—because they are a strong team. It works to their advantage.

“I really believe that they can (pick up points against the top three),” Michael Dawson continued. “I think they will look at that, the three teams, Liverpool, Man City, and Arsenal, and they will think ‘we can lose this game.” As you mentioned, they might win with relative ease. However, I believe they will be afraid.

The way Tottenham plays

For Postecoglou, it is imperative that his main players be prepared for these games.

Supporters have witnessed what happens when a couple of them are hurt, and it may be troublesome because the team plays without brakes in their front foot and fearless manner.

Because the Dutchman is so important to the club playing such a high line, supporters will be hoping that Micky van de Ven’s injury against Aston Villa was only a precaution.

You can always count on someone to ruin the other team’s celebration when Spurs are vying for the Champions League and their opponents are vying for first place.
