Sky Sports commentator criticizes major champions’ intention to make drastic PGA Tour modifications

Andrew Coltart, a Sky Sports analyst, has responded to Wyndham Clark’s idea that the PGA Tour lower the size of its fields and relegate the poorest 20 players each season.

The US Open champion, one of the circuit’s rising stars, told reporters at the Arnold Palmer Invitational over the weekend that he agreed with Rory McIlroy’s desire for the tour to become more “cutthroat,” making it more difficult for players to keep their membership.

Clark, who finished second at Bay Hill behind world number one Scottie Scheffler, urged that the tour limit its membership to 100 players to boost the stakes and make the season more interesting.

However, Coltart, a European Tour veteran who represented Europe in the Ryder Cup in 1999, denied the idea outright, citing the influence of previously unknown players such as Jake Knapp and Nick Dunlap, both winners on tour this year.

“Where’s the jeopardy, where’s the competitiveness, where’s the Cinderella narrative when you award money to a tiny handful of players despite their bad performance? There should always be a cut if you wish to be compensated. “I want to see guys like Jake Knapp and Nick Dunlap storm to victory,” Coltart wrote on X.

Clark, 30, just cracked the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) ten months ago, but wins at the Wells Fargo Championship and the US Open catapulted him to the top. He also won the rain-affected AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February and is currently placed fifth in the OWGR.

Wyndham Clark discussed his connection to LIV Golf Wyndham. Clark has been questioned for his ideas on how the PGA Tour should appear in the future.

When asked if he agreed with McIlroy’s thoughts for the tour’s future, Clark responded: “I think it would be wonderful if our circuit had a hundred men, and I’ve kind of stated this a few times, 100 people, and we have 20 guys that get relegated every time, every year, regardless of who you are. That would be exciting.

“When it comes to the end of the year, people look at who is going to win the FedEx Cup, and then they look at who isn’t going to be here the next year. So, yes, I’m probably with Rory on this.

LIV Golf players ‘want to come back’ to the PGA Tour as startling claim emerges.

Rory McIlroy laments catastrophic defect that could ruin his Masters aspirations after a terrible performance.

“I don’t know what that number is, but I think it’s just nice to elevate the product and make it to where the best players are playing on TV more often and against each other.”

However, DP World Tour member Richard Mansell was among the players who objected to Clark’s suggestions. The Englishman said on social media: “Good thing they didn’t do this when you finished below the top 100 on the PGA Tour not too long ago.

“The concept of a closed business is dreadful. Remember where you came from. There are a number of talented

athletes waiting to break through.”
