Rory McIlroy was informed he should face a fine for ripping up green at API.

Would it be unrealistic to assume Rory McIlroy was dissatisfied with his performance at the Arnold Palmer Invitational?

McIlroy entered the marquee PGA Tour tournament off the back of some poor results after a strong start to the season in the Middle East.

He had to work hard to make the cut, and in classic McIlroy manner, he came out of nowhere to shoot a moving day 68 and surge into contention.

McIlroy, who is only five shots behind world number one Scottie Scheffler, should have been confident in his prospects.

However, the Northern Irishman’s Sunday at Bay Hill began disastrously, with him a remarkable 5-over par at the turn.

His dissatisfaction was clear early on, and on the third hole, he vented it by making a small dent in the green’s perimeter.

That came after his 11-footer for par went past the right edge of the cup.

In fairness, the reaction paled in comparison to his third-round hissy fit, during which he was filmed knocking up a tee box marker.

Rory McIlroy’s enormous fury at Bay Hill resulted in the destruction of a tee box marker, while Wyndham Clark’s little tantrum at the Arnold Palmer Invitational sparked criticism from golf fans.

Golf fans blast Wyndham Clark for his mini meltdown at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

To be fair, McIlroy was not the only player dissatisfied with their performance.

Wyndham Clark was also caught on camera throwing his wedge into the turf after chunking a chip early in the third round.

Clark was then accused of not following the guidelines strictly enough. He denied cheating.

A few of golf fans were not pleased after witnessing the video of McIlroy ripping up the green.

“If Mr. Palmer was still alive he’d be getting a strongly worded letter,” one of them wrote on X.

Another wrote, “It’s time for him to face consequences for his actions. “Fines are meaningless to these millionaires.”

McIlroy finished tied for 21st place after shooting a 4-over 76 in the final round.

Aside from the rained-out AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, McIlroy has finished in the top 25 in his last three PGA Tour appearances.

McIlroy will next compete in the coveted Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. McIlroy won the Players in 2019.
