Just nine months after his professional debut, Ludvig Aberg has accomplished something that only a few male Swedish golfers have done before

Ludvig Aberg is widely recognized as one of the game’s stars. Even before turning professional, he was making waves as an amateur, winning pro events and earning the title of World No.1 Amateur. Furthermore, he created history as the first player to gain straight entrance to the PGA Tour through collegiate performance, finishing first in the 2023 PGA Tour University Ranking.

He won on the PGA and DP World Tours in his first six months of professional golf, and now, nine months later, he is on track to break into the world’s top ten in just 20 starts.

Aberg made his professional debut in the RBC Canadian Open in June 2023, finishing in the top 25. From there, he won the Omega European Masters in September, just three months after becoming pro, and his first PGA Tour triumph two months later at the RSM Classic.

Aberg, who has also played in the Ryder Cup, nearly shattered Tiger Woods’ record when he reached number 11 in the world in February 2024 after only 18 starts. This was only one event behind Tiger, who needed 17 to accomplish the feat.

Now, in mid-March, only nine months after turning professional, Aberg is poised to enter the renowned top ten for the first time, with the 24-year-old continuing to impress after placing solo second at the weather-hit AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am last month.

Despite being in the early stages of his professional career, Aberg becomes only the fifth male player from Sweden to enter the top ten. Stenson reached World No. 2 in May 2014, followed by Robert Karlsson at No. 6 in October 2008; Jesper Parnevik reached a career high of seventh in May 2000, and Alex Noren at No. 8 in May 2017.

Aside from Annika Sorenstam, who achieved World No.1 in the women’s game, no Swedish male player has ever reached the top of the World Rankings, but given the rate his stock is rising, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Aberg’s name there in the future!
