Watch: Rory McIlroy drives the 401-yard, par-4 10th green at Bay Hill by cutting a corner

The combination of Rory McIlroy and his driver is possibly the deadliest in golf.

And once more on Saturday, we saw the world No. 2 make an amazing shot with the big stick. During the third round, McIlroy drove the par-4 10th green, causing the ball to land on the front of the putting surface as the group ahead of him was still finishing the round.

What was McIlroy’s method? The hole is a dogleg right, but as players have become longer over the years, an increasing number of them have been cutting the corner and going over houses to get closer to the elevated green. They typically fall on the fairway or rough within 100 yards.

Well, McIlroy made a more accurate decision than most people have ever made. And what was the outcome? Now, take a look at this:

Since the ShotLink era began in 2003, McIlroy is the first player to drive the green. He may also be the first person to drive a green car in history.

The tee shot found itself on the front of the green after traveling 365 yards. He was able to two putt for birdie with a back right pin.

What a coup.
