Tottenham “intensely” desired to sign the 25-year-old, but Levy was never able to overcome the club’s €25 million “stubbornness.”

Prior to Tottenham’s January decision to invest heavily in Radu Dragusin, Ange Postecoglou had his eye on another center-back.

On the surface, it appeared to be a very simple transaction to complete because Victor Nelsson’s contract at Galatasaray had a release provision.

That was agreed upon at €25 million, but Aksam clarified on Thursday while discussing rumours from England that West Ham was considering the defender that Tottenham had never raised the price.

They remember that last summer, Daniel Levy “could not break the stubbornness” of the Turkish side, despite Spurs’ “interest” in and desire for the 25-year-old to be “intensely,” which was widely reported at the time.

This is due to their request for a move of €25 million, which they were never granted, and the player’s reluctant decision to play out the current season in Turkey.

In the event that the agreement was completed, it would have been the third transaction involving Galatasaray and Tottenham that summer. The first two, in which Davinson Sánchez was sold to the Süper Lig giants and Tanguy Ndombele was subsequently loaned to them, had quite different outcomes.
