25-year-old, who left Leeds United in 2021, is second only to Viktor Gyokeres with 19 goals this season

Many young immigrants have come and gone from Leeds United throughout the Victor Orta era without ever making an impression on the starting lineup. The Spanish sensation Rafa Mujica is one of them.

In summer 2019, Mujica, who is now 25 years old, joined Leeds. He was in Elland Road’s records for two years, having been lent out four times. Before joining permanently, the latter was Las Palmas, a Spanish team.

Then, in the summer of 2022, following a challenging season at Las Palmas, he transferred to the Portuguese team Arouca and hasn’t looked back. He’s really hot this season. In thirty league and cup outings, he has scored 19 goals.

Of those 19, 16 have occurred in Portugal’s top division, making Mujica the third-highest scorer in the nation. He trails only 18 points behind Viktor Gyokeres and Simon Banza of Braga. Gyokeres was formerly a target for Leeds.

After leaving Leeds, Rafa Mujica is vying for the golden boot with Portugal.

Sweden’s Gyokeres, who was linked to a move to Leeds during the summer, is currently being pursued by some of the top teams in Europe. Chelsea has offered £73 million. Not long behind the former Coventry star is Mujica.

It’s not like Leeds lacks quality at the top. Mateo Joseph, Joel Piroe, Patrick Bamford, and Georginio Rutter are all great choices at this level, as well as if the team is promoted back to the Premier League.

But Mujica is demonstrating that he is one of the best strikers in Portuguese football, even though he will never be able to play at the level he did at Leeds. Three years after moving on from Leeds, he is vying for the golden boot in Portugal.
