After securing Sheffield Wednesday’s fifth Championship victory in six games, Ian Poveda once again shone. Jean-Kevin Augustin responded to the Leeds United loanee’s performance on Instagram.
Poveda, 24, signed a contract with Wednesday on loan in January, with plans to sign a permanent agreement by the end of the current campaign. The summer is when his Leeds contract is set to expire, thus Wednesday ought to sign him.
The previous six league games he has started for Danny Rohl’s team have seen them win five of them, giving them a chance to survive. Wednesday is one of four teams with 38 points, still in 23rd place.
Poveda has had a significant influence; Friday night, the Sheffield Star gave him a 7/10 and called him “a pleasure to watch.” He teased Plymouth on Instagram by posting the comment “crashed the boat.”

Poveda is at last given the chance to step up and flourish. Poveda played just 30 senior games for us in four years, after making just one senior appearance for Manchester City.
Naturally, a fractured leg sustained while on loan at Blackburn did not assist. An uneventful loan stay with Blackpool last season. Now, though, he is a first-choice player for a team that wants to play exciting, offensive football.
Even if Wednesday is under pressure right now, considering their recent performance and form, you wouldn’t think so. Meanwhile, Augustin has settled down as well; he has been residing in Basel since the summer of 2022.
He has nearly reached 50 appearances for the Swiss team following his disastrous and costly three-game tenure with Leeds. But as he noted on Instagram, the friendship with Poveda still exists.
