The Miami Dolphins, who own the first round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft in Christian Wilkins, a standout defensive tackle, are not planning to use the franchise tag on Wilkins, according to several stories that surfaced over the weekend.

Additional evidence arrived on Monday in the form of a social media post from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, one of the league’s most reliable sources.

The seasoned reporter claims that the Miami Dolphins want to let Wilkins to test free agency rather of applying the $22.1 million franchise tag to the 28-year-old defensive tackle.

For some Dolphins supporters, the news will be difficult to accept because general manager Chris Grier was unable to sign Wilkins before the 2023 NFL season. Rather of betting on others, the former Clemson University standout is now well-positioned to profit from a big contract this summer.

Grier and company will have plenty of work ahead of them to replace the voids left by both individuals, since there are speculations that another talented Miami Dolphins lineman, Robert Hunt, will be permitted to test the market. Hunt plays on the offensive side of the ball.
