View: Ange makes a mistake as Tottenham’s 0% defeat against Crystal Palace begins

After Emerson Royal’s performance against Wolves the previous game, Ange Postecoglou may come to regret starting the right-back against Crystal Palace.

On Saturday, March 2, Spurs will host their South London rivals at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a crucial Premier League match.

Following their shocking 2-1 home loss to Gary O’Neil’s Wolves on February 17, Postecoglou and his team will be eager to bounce back to winning ways.

They will be totally focused on the task at hand, even though a lot has changed at Selhurst Park in the last two weeks as they get ready for their matchup with the Eagles.

Following Roy Hodgson’s resignation as Palace manager (Crystal Palace Official Website, February 19), Oliver Glasner was appointed the team’s new manager. On Saturday, February 24, the team defeated Burnley 3-0 to start their winning streak in England.

As a result, Palace will travel to North London with great confidence, helped by Eberechi Eze’s comeback, while Spurs’ injury problems persist.

Due to the absence of Pedro Porro and Richarlison, Postecoglou was forced to select Emerson for the Spurs starting lineup, which was officially announced on the team’s official X account on March 2.

Emerson Royal needs to get better at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Crystal Palace.

Even though Emeron’s most recent performance will have some supporters thinking that the Australian should have done all in his power to keep the 25-year-old out, even if it meant switching up the formation, Postecoglou was undoubtedly left with little options as a result of Porro’s absence.

Emerson had a challenging afternoon against Wolves as he attempted to mimic the inverted full-back position that Porro has occasionally made appear so simple this season with his seamless performances.

Regretfully, Emerson’s attempts fell short of expectations.

Even though he had several strong defensive and offensive plays, his overall play was far from satisfactory.

He did make three interceptions and four tackles, according to Sofascore, but he was also dribbled past once and only prevailed in ten of the sixteen ground duels he engaged in.

He completed 93% of his passes when in control, but his play fell short when it counted most.

He made no crucial passes, and none of his long balls forward or crosses into the box were accurate.

Using Emerson Royal at Selhurst Park

Earlier in the season, Emerson Royal was playing for Tottenham versus Crystal Palace.

Ultimately, he surrendered possession 13 times in a performance that was a significant decline in quality from Porro’s peaks but wasn’t exactly a terrible show.

In the matchup with Glasner’s Palace, hopefully, Emerson can get closer to duplicating those standards for Postecoglou.

In other Tottenham news, a contract decision announced yesterday may have set up Spurs’ backup for Destiny Udogie already.
