The former Ryder Cup partner of Anthony Kim has shared his opinions on the LIV Golf revival

The former Ryder Cup partner of Anthony Kim has shared his opinions on the LIV Golf revival.

An early reminder of Anthony Kim’s abilities was given by former American Ryder Cup player Hunter Mahan, in advance of Kim’s debut on LIV Golf in Saudi Arabia this week.

After a series of injury setbacks in 2012, Kim appeared to have given up on his career and became golf’s forgotten man. The 38-year-old’s final competition of the year was the Wells Fargo Championship, where he was forced to withdraw from a third consecutive event because of his ongoing fitness issues.

After making a splash on the PGA Tour in the late 2000s and winning three events in two years, he had established himself as one of the game’s most exciting possibilities. He had been compared to the legendary Tiger Woods.

During that year, Kim also got a call-up to the 2008 US Ryder Cup team, which included six-time PGA Tour champion Hunter Mahan. After more than ten years away, Kim has returned to the game by joining with LIV, and Mahan gave a positive assessment of the skill of his old comrade.

Mahan told Golf.com, “It’s hard to tell people how good he was.” “He is incredibly talented and very good. He possessed an incredible blend of outstanding technique. He had an amazing swing. The short game was excellent. He was a little bit of a streaky putter, but he had excellent ball striking technique, was very consistent, and never shied away from a challenge.

Mahan said, “When you got him on the golf course, he was super competitive.” He genuinely desired to stump your intelligence. Like he was genuinely happy to just beat you. He had a Tiger-like quality to him. He had no fear of rivalry from anyone. The 38-year-old continued to receive lovely sentiments after that.

It will be Anthony Kim’s first event in twelve years.

In addition, Open champion Brian Harman, who partnered with Kim in the 2005 Walker Cup, bestowed praise onto him. “AK is arguably the most talented golfer in history, if not the best—he’s in the top three,” asserted Harman. “His abilities are astounding.

“He could, after all, hit it as hard as anybody if he so desired. His iron strokes were simply amazing; he choked down this far on the iron and smashed it. His short game was also exceptional. They were all fresh out of the barrel. Rumors of Kim’s comeback started around the beginning of the year, after she went into golf exile.

According to reports, the former world No. 6 was in negotiations to make his much-awaited return with both the PGA Tour and LIV. However, he decided to try his luck with a new league sponsored by Saudi Arabia for this week’s tournament in Jeddah. Greg Norman, CEO of LIV, greeted the former Ryder Cupper upon his comeback to the game.

“He exudes amazing talent,” Norman wrote in a Monday tweet. “The world has witnessed it before, and it is an honor for me as Commissioner of LIV Golf to provide this great with a second chance at life. Greetings from the LIV Golf family and welcome back. You have been missed in the golf world.”
