There aren’t many Leeds United players that can be dissatisfied with their current seasons.
After 34 games, the Whites have accumulated 72 points in an unprecedented promotion race at this level, thanks to significant contributions from every member of the team.
Joel Piroe and Pascal Struijk were two of the most important players in the first part of the season; in the beginning of the new year, Ilia Gruev, Junior Firpo, and Patrick Bamford emerged as leaders.
While other players, like Joe Rodon, Georginio Rutter, Ethan Ampadu, and Crysencio Summerville, have excelled during the season, Connor Roberts is one player who has personally been let down by his year.
Naturally, despite playing a major part in Burnley’s promotion last season, Roberts didn’t start for Burnley since October and only transferred to Leeds on deadline day in January.
In an interview with the Official Leeds United Podcast, Roberts said he finds the way this season has gone to be “strange,” but he is eager to advance farther on his career.
Roberts finds the “strange” season disappointing.
“It’s not going to be like it was three or four years ago when I was playing every game and I didn’t really need to train or recover,” he remarked. It will be different, but all I can do is give it everything I have.
“It has been strange to be honest, but it has been a disappointing season after a really good season. Hopefully, at the end of the season, I can say that I’ve been promoted again, and we’ll see where we go from there.”
Roberts would have hoped to play a significant part in the Premier League at Turf Moor after being nominated in the Championship TOTS the previous season, but it never happened.

But it also applies to a large portion of Burnley’s squad, including January Leeds target Manuel Benson. They practically have a completely new team this season as a result of their disorganized strategy from previous summer.
Even though he hasn’t yet started in the league, Roberts is fully focused on doing what he did at Leeds almost at this time last year, and he will undoubtedly play a significant role here.
Roberts’ future is uncertain because Leeds merely signed him on a straight loan; nonetheless, it appears he has already stated that Elland Road is where he wants to stay for the long run.
