Dan Rafael reports that the highly anticipated fight on the “Knockout Chaos” undercard between Israil Madrimov and Magomed Kurbanov is no longer happening. The bout was scheduled to take place for the vacant WBA junior middleweight title, which was formerly held by Jermell Charlo, who is currently the WBA’s “champion in recess.”

Kurbanov vs. Madrimov Postponed

The WBA 154 title fight between Israil Madrimov and Magomed Kurbanov has been canceled, according to Rafael’s shocking news. Given that neither fighter had lost, this was expected to be one of the more interesting fights on the heavily packed March 8 event. After agreeing to a fight months ago, it appeared like these two were finally going to square off, but Jake Donovan of Ring Magazine reported that the fight was postponed for circumstances that were completely beyond of their control.

With the WBA title on the line, the fight between the two undefeated boxers was even more intriguing. However, Madrimov has been ruled out of the fight due to a problem with a pre-fight medical scan performed by the BBBofC (event regulator). Whether these two will eventually cross paths in the future is yet to be known.

WBA Title Now Vacant: In a rematch of their earlier draw, Jermell Charlo (35-2-1, 19 KOs) defeated Brian Castano in the tenth round to unify the junior middleweight division and become the first person to hold four belts. There is even more drama around the Madrimov-Kurbanov fight because Charlo has been categorized by the WBA as its “champion in recess,” as reported by Dan Rafael on his Fight Freaks Unite SubStack.
