Five lessons from Tottenham’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur team came back from behind to defeat Crystal Palace 3-1 in the Premier League this afternoon, showcasing their impressive comeback.

Here are the five lessons we took away from the game:

Timo Werner needed the goal desperately.

Timo Werner would have been under a lot of pressure if he had finished the day goalless once more after squandering a few good opportunities today. Luckily, Brennan Johnson’s outstanding performance down the right handed him a chance he could not pass up.

Now that Richarlison is sidelined due to injury, Werner will undoubtedly play more, so maybe this goal can be the beginning of a good run for him.

Brennan Johnson fundamentally altered the game.

Johnson, who entered the game with about thirty minutes remaining, may have been Tottenham’s greatest player of the day. Though his initial touch was a clear sitter, he made up for it by stealing the ball from Joachim Andersen, dribbling into the box, and setting Werner up for the equalizer.

Johnson’s willingness and determination to succeed were demonstrated by some incredible running, fierce pressing, and ball-winning maneuvers. His persistent pressure also helped Son score.
