The two teams Gary Lineker believes will advance from the Championship this year are listed

Gary Lineker, who witnessed Leeds United defeat his beloved Leicester City last week, has given his assessment of the Championship promotion race.

Leicester is still leading the division, as they have for the majority of the season, but they are currently only six points ahead of Leeds and Ipswich Town, with Southampton five points behind.

Even though Southampton has had a little setback lately, all four teams are now establishing a standard at the top of the Championship that has never been seen before.

If they didn’t easily break the 90-point threshold, it would be shocking. That would be an incredible accomplishment that would leave the two teams who lose in May devastated.

Lineker, who suggested both Leeds and Leicester had “Premier League squads,” backed Leeds to win promotion in an interview with the most recent episode of the Rest is Football Podcast.

Lineker predicts Leeds and Leicester will advance.

It was end-to-end material. Leeds seems like a respectable team. I believe Leeds and Leicester will be the two teams promoted back to the Premier League, and I believe both teams likely have Premier League rosters.

Seven days ago, Leeds and Leicester squared off in what was perhaps the biggest match of the season so far. With the victory, Daniel Farke’s team had defeated both the Foxes and Ipswich.

Nevertheless, Leicester is still very much in the driver’s seat for a top two finish; at this point in the season, their six-point advantage gives them greater leeway.

Leeds, on the other hand, has won nine straight league games and has a stretch of four games against teams close to the bottom where they can solidify their place in the top two.

Ipswich, on the other hand, is not giving up and is enjoying a strong run of their own. Southampton’s automatic aspirations will probably depend on whether they can win each of their three away games against the top three.
