Sergio Garcia needs to pay £1 million to rejoin the DP World Tour and the Ryder Cup in golf.

According to the Telegraph, Sergio Garcia is the only player in LIV Golf who has not paid the original £100,000 fee and is reportedly in arrears of £893,000 in fines.

LIV According to James Corrigan of the Telegraph, Sergio Garcia of golf needs to pay just under £1 million in fines and penalties in order to play for the European Ryder Cup squad and return to the DP World Tour.

The 44-year-old Garcia informed the popular YouTube golfer on the Rick Shiels program that he was hoping to regain his DP World Tour card.

There is uncertainty about whether Garcia kept his pledge because the podcast was taped in November of last year but was only posted to Shiels’ channel last week.

Garcia clarified that he intended to participate in the DP World Tour four times or more in 2024, which is the needed minimum for membership.

That would have made it possible for the all-time leading scorer of Ryder Cup points in Europe to return to the fold, possibly as a competitor for the 2025 match at Bethpage Black in New York.

Garcia left the DP World Tour in May of last year after the circuit’s sanctions against LIV golfers were upheld.

Along with Garcia, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, and Richard Bland also opted to leave their home circuit.

After the weekend’s activity, a DP World Tour pro destroys both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.

They contested the circuit’s authority to levy hefty fines for participation in LIV Golf competitions without first receiving tournament releases.

Although DP World Tour informed them that their bans “were a consequence of their own choices,” it was nevertheless a sad ending.

Garcia reportedly agreed to a $40 million contract with LIV Golf in 2022.

On the DP World Tour, formerly known as the European Tour, Garcia has won 16 times in total.

Before trashing his card, the 2017 Masters champion won 11 times on the PGA Tour.

Garcia failed to apply for membership in the DP World Tour by the deadline in November 2023.

Garcia did, in fact, miss the deadline of November 19, 2023, to reapply for the DP World Tour. This was disclosed to GolfMagic last week.

A representative for the DP World Tour informed Ben Smith of GolfMagic:

“First and foremost, whilst Rick’s podcast was posted [last week], it’s important to note he says it was filmed in November.”November 19, 2023, was the cutoff date for signing up for the 2024 season of the DP World Tour.Sergio did not submit an application to rejoin after quitting last May. For the 2024 season, he is consequently not a member.”

The Telegraph claims that Sergio Garcia is still short of £1 million in penalties and fines.

In a piece published on February 29, the Telegraph revealed additional details regarding Garcia’s plans for the Ryder Cup and the DP World Tour.

The story states that Garcia’s recent remarks to Shiels have “baffled” DP World Tour officials stationed at Wentworth.

James Corrigan of the Telegraph was told by a source:

“Sergio is either in denial or he is completely oblivious to the hurdles he must clear to become a member again.”

According to reports, Garcia is currently in arrears for £893,000 and is the only player in the LIV Golf league who has not paid the £100,000 original charge that was levied following the DP World Tour’s successful legal challenge in April 2023.

Should Garcia decide he wants to rejoin the DP World Tour and maintain his chances of playing on Luke Donald’s European Ryder Cup team in 2025, he will have to fork up a total of £993,000.

Garcia won’t be able to participate in any more DP World Tour tournaments until he has completed a total of nine weeks of suspensions, according to information obtained by The Telegraph.

A source informed the Telegraph:

“Sergio’s statement was bizarre, seeing as he resigned when refusing to pay the first fine.”He is probably hoping that an amnesty and a clear road back be worked out in the ongoing negotiations with PIF [the Saudi sovereign wealth fund].

“However, the rank and file of the Tour is adamant that the fines must be paid first, and Sergio has only agreed to pay thus far in exchange for a chance to compete in the Ryder Cup.

“Let’s just say that as of now his plan is unlikely and there is a stipulation that the regulations for 2024 stipulate that applications for membership can be rejected for any reason whatsoever.”

Garcia is taking part in the third LIV Golf tournament of the Saudi Arabian season this week.

The Spaniard lost to Joaquin Niemann in a playoff game in Mayakoba, which ended his excellent start to the season.

Garcia continues to chase his first victory on LIV.
