Matty Longstaff, who was released from Newcastle United last summer, has since found a new club.

 

With a one-year option to extend, the 23-year-old has signed a two-year contract with Major League Soccer team Toronto FC. This comes after Longstaff, who was on loan at League Two Colchester United, suffered a catastrophic knee injury on Boxing Day, 2022. He went back to Newcastle to continue his recuperation, but he hasn’t participated in a competitive game since.

 

Against Manchester United at St. James’ Park on his Premier League debut, Longstaff scored the game’s winning goal to launch his career for Newcastle. In the rematch that season, The Magpies lost 4-1 at Old Trafford, and he scored again for them.
