We’re Going to Discover If Anthony Kim Is Deserving of All This Hype

Since he left in 2012, there have been constant rumors regarding his location. In the past month, these rumors have accelerated to a full tilt, with tales of Kim making a surprise appearance at the Saudi Arabian tournament circulating during Super Bowl week at the LIV Las Vegas event.

And now here we are. But are we really that interested in a 38-year-old who has spent more than a decade in virtual exile coming back? The Associated Press reporter Doug Ferguson’s 2015 interview provided the first insight into the three-time PGA Tour winner’s circumstances. In addition to an Achilles injury, Kim also had problems with his hand, spine, rotator cuff, and labrum.

He estimated that these problems required six or seven surgery over the course of three and a half years. How fascinating is it to watch an ex-pro who is physically damaged? Tiger Woods is not Kim. Does anyone find the return to be worth it? From LIV Golf’s perspective, it’s about taking a chance on a player who was a needle-mover in a previous life by signing him and hoping he has more left in him.

Whether he performs well or not, the reported $5–$7.5 million price tag is a small amount of money in LIV’s wallet. We have a story if Kim plays well and challenges for the victory. But let’s not get carried away. We’ll get back together for a postmortem following Sunday’s final round, one shot at a time.
