Three-time All-Star is still a free agent, and the Red Sox might be interested in signing him.

 

 

Before the 2024 season begins, there are still many unanswered questions for the Boston Red Sox to answer.

 

While Boston’s starting lineup has received the most attention, the team still needs to improve in other areas. Since losing Justin Turner to free agency, the Red Sox have been trying to add another right-handed bat to their lineup.

 

Despite being linked to several players, notably outfielder Adam Duvall, the Red Sox have not yet completed a trade. It wouldn’t be shocking to see the Red Sox choose to add more players as a bench option if they choose not to sign Duvall.

 

The seasoned third baseman Evan Longoria is one player who may make some sense if he were to enter free agency.

 

The three-time All-Star is currently on the market. His future plans are unknown, but if he chooses to play on, Boston could find him to be a very valuable addition. Longoria played for the Arizona Diamondbacks during the 2023 season, when he hit 11 home runs and collected 28 RBI in 74 contests.

 

Longoria could see action as Rafael Devers’ replacement at third base in addition to serving as the team’s designated hitter and offering seasoned leadership in the clubhouse. Turner was not only one of Boston’s top offensive players from the 2023 campaign; he was also a key member of the team’s clubhouse chorus.

 

Perhaps someone with Longoria’s caliber could help close this gap. Having played in the major leagues for 16 years, he has undoubtedly had great success. In addition, he won’t be expensive because he is 38 years old.

 

Longoria is the kind of player that Boston could definitely use as they continue to search for ways to bolster their team.
