“Recall”…Mateo Joseph talks about what he and Archie Gray exchanged last night in the Leeds locker room.

Against Chelsea yesterday night, Leeds United’s standout players were Archie Gray and Mateo Joseph.

A significantly altered Last night, Leeds United faced battle against their Premier League rivals and were only defeated by Conor Gallagher’s game-winning goal in the ninetieth minute after coming off the bench.

Joseph’s first-ever goal for Leeds had given them the lead early on, but Mykhaylo Mudryk and Nicolas Jackson tied the score shortly before halftime.

The 20-year-old then headed in his second goal of the evening during Leeds’ commanding halftime display, during which Gray further demonstrated his abilities.

Even though they lost, Gray’s Man of the Match victory over a £200 million midfield will live in memory, and Joseph will never forget the evening.

Joseph clarifies Gray’s conversation

In an interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post, Joseph claims that Gray and he had a conversation in the dressing room about how far their relationship had come.

“Remember when we were playing here with the 21s,” he recalled as they hugged each other in the shower. Hopefully we can bring tremendous things and lots of victories to the club over our lengthy journey with him.

Though the former has had to wait far longer for a chance than the latter, both Joseph and Gray are now very much in the first team conversation after being important performers for the U21s the previous season.

Although Gray has spent the majority of the season playing at right-back, he demonstrated yesterday against elite opponents that, as his great-uncle Eddie hinted at before the game, midfield is and always will be his position in the long run.

With just two starts this season—both in the FA Cup—Joseph will be hopeful he has done enough to merit a legitimate chance in the league.
