As it now appears that one of their targets will be leaving his current club, Newcastle United’s transfer aspirations have been given an additional boost.

Since his outstanding performances in the Champions League in 2023, Newcastle has been keeping an eye on Roony Bardghji of Copenhagen, however they are not the only ones.

Fabrizio Romano is now saying on X that the 18-year-old, whose current contract with the Danish club is slated to expire in 18 months, will not be signing a new one.

Talented child scheduled to leave in the summer

Since his late winner against Manchester United in the Champions League group stage, which ultimately cost the Red Devils a spot in the knockout stages, Bardghji has attracted a lot of interest from several elite clubs.

Nevertheless, in spite of his skill, the 18-year-old has not yet played for Copenhagen in 2024, sitting on the bench for the last two matches as a result of his refusal to sign a new deal.

The £30 million midfield player’s current contract expires in the summer of 2025, thus he will likely want to make a major move during the upcoming transfer window. Some big names are reportedly keeping an eye on him.

The Swedish youth international is attracting interest from a number of teams, including Newcastle, Chelsea, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich.

Romano posted on social media, saying: “Roony Bardghji, strange case for one of Europe’s best talents.” After leading Copenhagen in goals scored with ten, he played zero minutes in the opening games of 2024.

The reason is that Bardghji does not intend to sign a new long-term contract; as of the summer, he will only have 18 months remaining on his current one, and other elite teams are keeping an eye on him.

Newcastle requires a new right-wing player.

Newcastle’s defence and midfield have been unsteady, which hasn’t actually been the cause of their recent struggles—they have put four goals past Luton, three past Nottingham Forest, and two past Bournemouth.

The right side of the attack, which is normally manned by Miguel Almiron, who has only contributed four goals this season in the Premier League, is noticeably devoid of a goal threat.

Even though Bardghji is still a very raw talent, Newcastle is definitely thinking about it. He might eventually have the inventiveness and motivation to claim the right-wing place as his own.

Yankuba Minteh, who was on loan at Feyenoord, is expected to return in the summer, so it will be intriguing to watch how Eddie Howe handles that position going ahead.
