There are rumors that Roma has entered the contest to sign Richard Hughes, the sports director of Bournemouth. At the close of last year, there were rumors that Newcastle United was considering the Cherries’ chief as a backup for Dan Ashworth. The Toon director had not yet made it known that he intended to depart the club at that point.

Ashworth is now on gardening leave and will be visiting Manchester United shortly. He couldn’t officially begin working for the Red Devils until 2026 unless they can come up with £20 million or work out a lower salary.

Thus, less than two years following Ashworth’s arrival, the Magpies must begin their search for a replacement. The 10-year veteran Hughes of Bournemouth has been mentioned as a potential contender.

The 44-year-old is well-versed with Howe’s career, having played for the Cherries for 11 years before to entering the boardroom. Hughes might not have the aura of a more well-known figure, but he would immediately have the manager’s support.

In addition to Matt Ritchie and Callum Wilson in the playing group, Newcastle also employs Howe’s nephew Andy in the scouting department. But should Roma take a step, the Magpies might be in for a challenge.

According to The Telegraph, they are thinking about replacing Tiago Pinto, who left last month, with the former Scotland international. Paradoxically, Pinto’s name has surfaced as yet another Newcastle target. Roma, who also lost Jose Mourinho in January, will have to rebuild themselves. After spending two and a half years in the Italian city, the Portuguese tactician was fired.
