Eddie Howe is not likely to face any sack pressure in the summer despite a disappointing season for Newcastle United, sources have told Football Insider.

 

The Saudi ownership and their associates have high expectations for the Magpies but it is believed Howe’s job will be safe heading into the 2024-25 campaign.

 

Sources say the 46-year-old will keep his position even if Newcastle fail to qualify for European competition or fail to win the FA Cup.

 

Injuries and a hectic fixture schedule with a small squad has caught up to the Tyneside club.

 

Newcastle have also been hit hard by their inability to spend big in the 2023-24 campaign – which has been attributed to Financial Fair Play restrictions.

 

Newcastle board decide on sacking Howe this summer

Their £55million signing of Italy international Sandro Tonali has backfired so far – with the midfielder banned for betting rule breaches just months into his time at St James’ Park.

 

 

Other signings like Harvey Barnes and Lewis Hall are yet to make a tangible impact in the north east.

 

Howe achieved Champions League qualification with Newcastle last season but were dumped out of the competition at the group stage last December.

His Magpies side sit 10th in the Premier League table but remain close to potential European qualification for next season despite their poor recent form.

 

Newcastle

They beat Blackburn on penalties on Tuesday (27 February) to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

 

Howe’s side face Wolves on Saturday (2 March) after losing 4-1 away at Arsenal in their last Premier League clash.
