Eddie Howe activates the £35 million man, who makes a comeback and starts again for Newcastle against Wolves.

This Saturday, Newcastle United and Wolves square off in a major match that will determine who plays in Europe the next season.

Since the beginning of December, Newcastle has had a dismal run of play, particularly at St. James’ Park, while Wolves appear to be getting better every game.

In their most recent encounter, Newcastle may count themselves fortunate to have salvaged a point after Callum Wilson’s contentious penalty kick was nestled away as the game ended 2-2.

Newcastle is aiming to surpass Wolves this next weekend.

Supporters of Newcastle entered the new season with high hopes of repeating the previous year’s feat of finishing in the top four and earning a trip to Wembley. They also wanted to demonstrate their talent in the Champions League.

But this season, reality has set in hard, as the Magpies were placed in the group of death in Europe and their Premier League play has suffered due to an endless injury list, leaving them in 10th place.

After Arsenal destroyed Newcastle last weekend, Wolves defeated a strong Brighton team the following weekend. With four straight victories, Gary O’Neil’s team is now just six points behind Manchester United in ninth place in the league.

Wolves won’t be afraid to travel to St James’ Park after recent away victories over Chelsea and Tottenham, especially considering Newcastle’s recent home losing streak against 10-man Fulham.

Burn will remain, and Botman will rejoin Newcastle’s squad

Opposing Blackburn Eddie Howe revealed that Sven Botman was kept off the roster because he needed time to recuperate from his September cruciate ligament injury.

The £35 million defender is still an essential member of Newcastle’s defense, even though he hasn’t played at his best since returning to the squad. Jamaal Lascelles filled in for him during the FA Cup match.

Given the 31-year-old’s recent poor form, Howe is also likely to stick Dan Burn at left-back despite removing him against Arsenal in favor of Tino Livramento.

Burn did manage to set up a goal for Joe Willock when he did enter the game against the Gunners, and he was again excellent when he rejoined the lineup against Blackburn, so there’s a high chance he maintains his spot.

The matchup between Burn and Pedro Neto of Wolves, who has been on fire this season and running teams ragged with two goals and nine assists so far, will be of great concern to Newcastle supporters.

Wolves’ absence of important striker Hwang Hee-Chan, who has four goals in five outings versus Newcastle, will have a significant impact on how the Magpies line up.

Predicted starting lineup for the game against the Wolves: Almiron, Isak, Gordon; Longstaff, Bruno, Miley; Trippier, Schar, Botman, and Burn.
