According to a BBC pundit, Leeds’ assaults collapsed last night anytime a player worth £10.5 million got the ball.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds United team from last night will have taught him a lot about who might be Premier League ready.

The Whites traveled to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday to play Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round, despite being in the thick of a fierce competition for automatic promotion.

Even after Farke made several changes to his starting lineup for the game, Leeds led Chelsea until the ninetieth minute, when Conor Gallagher’s late strike proved to be the deciding factor.

Even if a few players struggled, several, notably young players Archie Gray and Mateo Joseph, will have been pleased with their performances by the end of the game.

After the game, pundit Jon Newsome discussed them on BBC Radio Leeds, citing Joel Piroe as one of them and said that many of Leeds’ attacks were falling apart as the ball reached him.

Critics of Piroe’s performance include Newsome

“I don’t like to sit here after we’ve lost and pick at people because, as a team, we played really well and we were great overall,” he stated. However, it’s also my responsibility to point out our weaknesses, and I felt that Piroe’s performance wasn’t at its peak.

He appeared heavy-handed and was apprehended in possession. I’ve never doubted his work ethic or effort level; I simply believed he struggled.

Daniel appeared to be having difficulty, and each time it came down to him, he was the one who was breaking down, so I’m surprised he didn’t make the adjustments a little sooner.

After joining Leeds in the summer for £10.5 million, Piroe had a meteoric start to his career. However, it’s starting to look more and more like he might not be a good fit for this system.

The 24-year-old has been absent from many games while playing in a deeper position, but he was largely ineffectual when he recently replaced the injured Patrick Bamford as number nine.

If Leeds get promoted, Farke will undoubtedly be considering whether or not he can handle the step up after seeing his performance.

Having said that, with Bamford now appearing to be ahead of him in the pecking order and Joseph demonstrating his abilities last night, he might even find it challenging to secure a start between now and the end of the season.
