After just five games, Bayern Munich makes a significant Eric Dier decision

After just five games, Bayern Munich has taken a significant choice about Eric Dier’s future.

With manager Thomas Tuchel expected to leave at the end of the season, the Bavarian giants have had a turbulent few weeks.

In March 2023, the 50-year-old took over as Bayern’s manager from Julian Nagelsmann, and a few months later, he won the Bundesliga.

But following consecutive league losses, the team is now eight points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. One of those defeats was a crushing 3-0 setback to Leverkusen, and in their first-leg Champions League round of 16 matchup with Lazio, they lost 1-0.

Dier, an England international who plays defense for Bayern, is reportedly in doubt about his future and is unlikely to stick with the team past the summer, according to Sport Bild.

Dier’s skill and fundamental performances are purportedly the biggest areas of criticism, while there have also been concerns about his pace.

After joining Bayern on loan from Tottenham, Dier has made five appearances for the German team. If he plays a set number of games, the German team may have to pay about €3 million (£2.5 million) to make the transfer permanent.

The 30-year-old was first brought in to the team as a defensive backup because of an ongoing injury crisis.

Dier described joining Bayern as a “dream come true” after making the transfer.

“I’ve always wanted to move here,” Dier exclaimed as soon as he arrived. “Because all kids desire to play for a team like Bayern Munich in their future. Bayern has an amazing history and is one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“I want to use my defensive versatility to benefit the team. I think the Allianz Arena is one of the greatest stadiums in the world, and I’m definitely looking forward to my new teammates and the supporters there.
