Despite the fact that he is not Harry Kane, Manchester United should sign the “brilliant” No. 9 in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s revamp

Erik ten Hag has been instructed by Manchester United great Dwight Yorke to bring in an attacker this summer who is comparable to Tottenham star Son Heung-min.

Ten Hag has four areas he wants to develop, and one of those is his strike force, which he hopes to bolster before the next season. The club was restricted by Premier League financial constraints in the January transfer window after spending over £400 million in the previous two summers; the manager acknowledged that there was “no space” for midseason additions.

When his contract expires in June, Anthony Martial—who is not anticipated to recover from his injury before the end of March—will be leaving Old Trafford. Given that United spent £72 million on Rasmus Hojlund last year, it is unlikely that Sir Jim Ratcliffe will approve the purchase of another pricey striker, although a backup might be found.

However, other areas of the team require more urgent improvement. Given Raphael Varane’s uncertain future at the club, a center-back is expected to be signed. Yorke, the winner of the United Treble, acknowledges that the defense needs additional body, but he also suggested that the team should look boldly for a striker. Harry Kane, the captain of England, departed Tottenham for Bayern Munich last summer, and Yorke believes that Kane’s former Spurs teammate Son would be a great addition to United.

According to the Manchester Evening News (via Gambling Zone), the former attacker stated, “I would sign a central defender for sure but I couldn’t name one right now.” “I believe we need a No. 9; a player up there with a little bit more Premier League experience, such as Son, would be fantastic.

“He may not be as good as Harry Kane, but he still has a lot of energy and makes a lot of goals, so I would be really drawn to someone like him to go and grab. It will be challenging to acquire those players because all of these teams are in competition, particularly if United misses out on the Champions League the next year.”

Yorke expresses satisfaction with Hojlund’s improved play following a lackluster beginning to his United career. In the four League games that he has been available for since opening his Premier League account against Aston Villa on Boxing Day, the 21-year-old has scored.

“I’m very pleased Hojlund has started to score goals,” Yorke said. It can take a while to win people over, and things can go horribly wrong if you don’t bounce back from a bad start, but he’s done it, so I’m happy for him. How he ends the season will be interesting to watch.

“I believe that a great deal of people will be happy with his performance over the past four weeks. He’s now a consistent scorer, and his Premier League experience will also help, but since he’s still developing and learning how to play his position, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being.”
