Manchester United devise a scheme to avoid having to reimburse Newcastle much for Dan Ashworth

According to reports, Manchester United is attempting to find a method to avoid having to give Newcastle United a sizable sum of money in order to recruit Dan Ashworth.

The 52-year-old has agreed to take up the position of Old Trafford’s first-ever sporting director.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS both deemed him to be the nation’s top contender for the position.

It was believed that the Red Devils would have to make a sizable payment, but they still need to come to an agreement with Newcastle.

However, the Daily Mail claims that United are now willing to hold off until Ashworth has finished his gardening leave.

That would enable United to avoid having to pay “excessive” compensation, while they are still hopeful that Newcastle and United can work out a settlement.

As soon as he takes over as sports director, Ashworth intends to make a raid of his former club, Brighton, and is already considering his future plans for United.

However, Chelsea’s preemptive move for one of his top targets could derail his early ambitions before he even starts the job.

In the meanwhile, Ashworth and United are negotiating for Jason Wilcox, the former academy director of Manchester City, to join the team.

Given his experience at the Etihad, Wilcox would probably be in charge of the academy in this capacity.
