An poignant farewell to football is given by Newcastle flop forgets to mention the Magpies, even after four years there

At the age of 37, former Newcastle United striker Xisco Jiménez recently announced his retirement from the game.

The Spaniard chose to end his career in the middle of the Atletico Baleares season. He had been a member of the Magpies for four and a half years, from January 2008 to January 2013.

The Spanish publication Ultima Hora cited Xisco today discussing the end of his career. He said a tearful goodbye, and there was never a word about Newcastle.

“I achieved every player’s dream when I made my First Division debut and scored my first goals at Dépor.” The highlights of my career have been my promotions to Córdoba and Osasuna. From the start, I connected deeply with the club’s concept, and we were a large family, Xisco remarked.

“It is unfortunate that I have not been able to contribute as much as I would have liked to the team due to injuries and other issues,” he remarked in reference to Mallorca.

In 2008, Newcastle paid €5.68 million to acquire Xisco from Deportivo La Coruña. He just spent a season at St. James’ Park before being loaned to Racing Santander.

He rejoined the Magpies in the summer of 2010 and stayed there for six months before being loaned out again to La Coruña until the summer of 2011.

Only in January 2013 did Newcastle make the decision to let him go; in his 11 pitiful appearances, he managed just one goal and one assist.

After that, Xisco played for Alcorcón, Muangthong United, Osasuna, Peñarol, Cordoba, and lastly Atletico Baleares, where he is currently retired.
